I Am My Own Wife is the captivating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a transvestite who lived and thrived during two of the most oppressive regimes in the western world- the Nazis and the Communists. Her story is intertwined with the narrative of the author’s own experience interviewing and getting to know Ms. Von Mahlsdorf.

These are some music selections I made for the show.  Each is mixed so that it sounds as if it is being played on a record.

The music of a pianola, followed by the sound of a prison door being slammed on Charlotte’s friend, Alfred Kirschner, as he is incarcerated for selling antique clocks to American soldiers.

Charlotte’s answering machine message.

A handheld tape recording of Charlotte beginning her story that Doug listens to, remembering his interview with her.
